The jute industry sector in West Bengal and the rest of India is going through a worse phase. A variety of factors have led to the troubled scenario in the jute industry. The very recent murder of the CEO at the Northbrook jute mill is one of the ghastly incidents. The CEO of the Northbrook jute mill was surrounded from all ends and brutally murdered in front of a large crowd. This kind of an incident sends wrong signals to the industry. The trouble brewing in the industry is mainly due to management, labour and pay related disputes.
Ghanshyam Sarda is one of the leading industrial entities from the state of West Bengal. He has invested in several projects over the years and considered as a big name. Over the years, he has invested in several jute mill projects and carved a niche in the industry. Recently, the central government has also failed to live up to its expectations surrounding the jute industry. As per the complaints of various jute industry leaders, hardly any order is coming from the central government. The various jute mills are sitting without orders which show a very negative signal for the industry.
The Ghanshyam Sarda Kolkata group is quite worried about the current stature of the jute industry. The recent nosedive of the industry has also resulted in little or no investments in the sector. The union related problem is also one of the major worries for the industry. Whenever a crucial decision needs to be taken in the industry, there is interference from the local union leaders. Local political interference has created quite a havoc for the industry.
Around 12 lakh citizens are already affected by the stalemate in the industry. The industry leaders have discussed the present situation among themselves and looking for a new stand. As per the officials of the Sarda group, the industry leaders need to take a unified stand for the development of the industry. The government of West Bengal also needs to work out a concrete plan of action in this regard. An appointment with the chief minister of West Bengal has been sought in this regard. The chief minister is always banking upon industrialization in the state and needs to do something in this regard. The entire state is looking forward to this project of large dimension as a variety of job opportunities may be generated.
